Telco installs fiber optic lines in Guimaras

The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are putting up a fiber optic cable (FOC) in the province of Guimaras to meet the growing demand for broadband services in the island.

Governor Samuel T. Gumarin and Vice Governor John Edward Gando meet up with the team from PLDT for the provision of fiber optic facility in the Province of Guimaras.

Jaypee Kein Entredicho, Guimaras public information officer, confirmed that the telecommunication firms are fast-tracking the project because of broadband demand from individual and business clients.

Citing PLDT, he said the facility will connect Jordan, Buenavista, Sibunag, Nueva Valencia, and San Lorenzo towns.

He said the submarine fiber optic cable that connects La Paz to Bacolod is the same FOC installed in Guimaras.

The Provincial Government is upbeat that improved communication services will boost the tourism and business sectors in the island-province.

After the equipment and FOC are installed, it will be pilot tested.

Guimaras increased its target tourist arrival for this year.
