Bikers from Iloilo, Bacolod, Capiz and Guimaras planted more than 200 mangrove propagules at Barangay Hoskyn here.
The mangrove planting on Sunday was part of Padyak Kalikasan 2015: A Fun Ride for a Clean and Green Environment, according to Liberty Ferrer, public information officer.
The bike ride is part of the private-public partnership initiative, Guimaras: Bike Paradise of the Philippines Project, between the Provincial Government of Guimaras and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU).
Aside from greening the coasts of Hoskyn, about 200 bikers also conducted a coastal cleanup.
The recent bike ride focused on greening the environment.
Prior to the bike ride, 16 green sea turtles were released at Punta Lawi in Barangay Lawi here.
Prior to Padyak Kalikasan, Padyak Kalusugan and Kaligtasan were held.
The PPP project, which aims to make the island-province a premier biking destination in the country, was hailed 1st runner-up in the 2015 Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines-Department of Tourism (ATOP-DOT) Pearl Awards in October in Davao City.
In his message, Gov. Samuel Gumarin called on domestic and international tourists to visit the island-province.
“Our place is peaceful,” he said, noting the decreasing crime rate over the years. [via PNA]
