The province of Guimaras is now in its most welcoming mode for those planning to unwind after a tiresome week.
This weekend, the province through its Manggahan Festival will kick off its much-awaited eat-all-you-can that will culminate on May 21.
With a registration fee of Php80 one can eat as many mangoes to satisfy one’s craving from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the trade fair area in Brgy. San Miguel in Jordan town.
Guimaras provincial agriculturist Ronnie Morante said that the province has prepared some 6.3 tons of sweet mangoes for the event.
He said that based on their study, an individual can eat around 2.5 kilos of mangoes; which means that the participants still incur savings. The price of mangoes sold in the market ranges from Php70 to Php100 a kilo.
Meanwhile, a mango-picking event is slated on May 21 to give participants the experience of the actual picking.
The participant will be provided with a pole and a basket. They will be brought to a plantation site situated nearer the provincial capitol in Brgy. San Miguel.
They can pick as many mangoes as they want, which they will pay for Php65 a kilo.
Morante added that only good quality mangoes will be weighed and sold. Damaged ones will not be counted. [via PNA]
