THE Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) will construct a P15-million flood control project in Nagay River in Nagay village, San Lorenzo, Guimaras, to address the flooding problem in the area.
Guimaras District Engineer Rolando Ubaldo Tuesday, March 21, said 90 percent of the said village is affected by flooding when water overflows from the river, especially during heavy rains or typhoons.
Ubaldo said there was never any flood control project constructed in the area.
He cited flood control is an “urgent” project, especially because it will also provide protection to agricultural lands in the area.
The P15-million budget for the project is included in the 2017 General Appropriations Act.
Ubaldo said they are now preparing the program of work for the flood control and that they might subject the project to bidding in April. /PNA*
