The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office in Guimaras has released the amount of P14-million to representatives of Peoples' Organizations for the mobilization of Enhanced National Greening Program (e-NGP).
The checks were released after the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement of the Guimaras Alliance for Protected Areas and Sanctuaries (GAPAS).
A press release from the DENR-6 Public Relations Office said the amount released represented the 15 percent mobilization fund intended for the establishment of 700 hectares of plantation.
These 700 hectares are broken down into 500 hectares for bamboo production, 150 for mangroves and 50 for agro-forestry.
DENR-6 Director Jim Sampulna said participation from the private sector, peoples’ organizations and the local government units should always be encouraged to continue their efforts to enhance development of forest plantations including forest parks.
“With our concerted efforts we can achieve our goal of restoring our forest areas by 2028 to mitigate the effects of climate change,” Sampulna said.
The National Greening Program started implementation in 2011 and aimed at massive forest rehabilitation program by growing 1.5 billion trees until 2016.
It was further strengthened by Executive Order No. 193 in 2015 or “Expanding the Coverage of the National Greening Program” extending the period of implementation from 2016 to 2028, to cover the remaining 7.1 million hectares of unproductive, denuded and degraded areas which contribute to environment-related risks. {PIA-Iloilo)
